Stanhope Framers Back Bay location

Who We Are

Stanhope Framers was founded in 1972, by David Murphy in Boston’s Back Bay. In 1993, Stanhope merged with The Old Cambridge Company, first opened in 1969. For over 50 years, Stanhope has stood by its mission to preserve and present fine art in hand-made, hand-finished hardwood splined frames, the way framing is meant to be crafted. We are a local, privately-owned company. Our custom-made frames are crafted by local artisans in our Somerville workshop.

Our Values

Quality Craftsmanship

The quality of our craftsmanship and satisfaction of our clients is second to none.

Environment

Since our founding, we have maintained a steadfast commitment to minimizing our environmental impact. Our hand finished frames are milled from only local domestic American hardwood stock, with no sourcing of exotic wood species. We finish our frames with only the finest water-based lacquers and stains- for the benefit of our local environment, but more important, for the safety of our employees.

Community

We are dedicated to supporting our local communities, lending support annually to numerous area organizations, particularly within the arts community. Stanhope Framers is a friend to many artists, curators, collectors and art gallery owners throughout the United States.
