Materials
We use only museum-quality, archival mat boards and backing materials in our frames. Our experienced designers will advise you in both design, and the most appropriate handling for the preservation of your art. We feature hand wrapped linen and silk matting options, as well as traditional French matting options- all crafted by hand in our workshop.
Stanhope Framers uses the most technologically advanced glazing products available in the industry to protect your artwork. We stock a full line of UV filtering and non-reflective products- in both glass and acrylic.
Process
Our preparators and artisans have decades of experience mounting and hinging a wide variety of works of art on paper, fine photographs, works on canvas, textiles, and 3-dimensional objects. We rely on our experience to employ the correct methods and techniques appropriate for each artwork we handle - taking every detail into consideration.
Works on paper
We mix our own rice and wheat starch paste fresh daily and use only the finest quality Japanese papers available to make hand-torn paper hinges. All to museum and conservation standards, and all 100% reversable. Fine photographs and other particular works on paper are prepared using acid-free polypropylene photo-corners and supports - with no adhesive coming into contact with the artwork.
Objects and Textiles
There is no object we can’t handle. Our craftspeople have the expertise to find the most elegant framing and display solutions for all types of three-dimensional artwork, objects, and textiles. We provide a wide range of custom pedestals, sculpture bases, Plexi-glass vitrines, and display cases for the home or museum collection. We hand-craft custom armatures, hooks and display fixtures for objects of all shapes and sizes. We sew and stabilize even the most fragile textiles - all in our Somerville workshop.
Photo Mounting
We have the skills and equipment to mount digital pigment prints, photo reproductions and other works on paper up to 60x120 inches, using acid-free heat activated, or pressure sensitive adhesive on a variety of substrates - Including foam core, gator board, conservation quality mat board, aluminum panel, and more.
